February 2011 –Jeff Blazey and Rachel Hutzel have the idea to donate a 12 ft telescope – but to who and where?
February 2011 – conversation with Walt Davis, APC Board Member
March 2, 2011 – Mr. Davis presents the idea at the APC Board meeting – the project was adopted immediately
March 2011 – March 2012 – Every Saturday morning planning meetings
October 22, 2011 Decision was made to look for a different location than Gulley Park –Camp Joy was suggested – Jeff drove out and evaluated the Camp Joy location
March 21, 2012 – MOU signed with Area Progress Council, Camp Joy, Donors Rachel Hutzel and Jeff Blazey, VSWC Architects, Warren County Career Center, Warren County Parks, Warren County Astronomical Society
March 2012 – Fund Raising begins
August 18, 2012 – Decision made to name the building – Rachel A. Hutzel Observatory
Fund Raising continues
April 11, 2013 – Ground Breaking at Camp Joy
June 7, 2013 – Pave the Milky Way Dinner - $60,000 raised
July 13, 2013 – Stake placed where the telescope pedestal will be set
July 2013 – Foundation poured at the site
July 2013 – Rachel A. Hutzel Observatory Endowment Established
August 2013 – Warren County Trades Students begin construction
Harsh Winter of 2013-2014 – slows construction
March 2014 – Construction gets started again
April 10, 2014 – Roof Rolls
May 12, 2014 – Pedestal set and telescope installed
October 3, 2014 - Dedication
